What 115V Means for Mini-Split Planning

A 115V mini split can be a good fit when adding a 230V circuit is impractical. It still needs a properly designed circuit, and an off-grid power source must be sized for the whole system—not just the voltage on the nameplate.

What does 115V tell you?

It tells you the system's nominal operating voltage. It does not tell you the required breaker size, wire size, energy use, battery runtime, or whether a particular inverter or generator can start and run the equipment.

What should you check on the product page?

  • The exact indoor and outdoor model numbers.
  • Minimum circuit ampacity and maximum overcurrent protection.
  • Where the power connects and what the installation manual requires.
  • Operating limits and any model-specific installation notes.

What if you're using solar, batteries, or a generator?

Plan the mini split together with the inverter, battery bank, charging source, wiring, protection, and every other load at the property. For example, a system that works on a utility circuit may still exceed an inverter's continuous output or leave too little stored energy for overnight operation.
